Financial Leadership Activities

Put financial leadership and entrepreneurship into action at the Colorado TSA State Conference! Chapters can register for a booth to sell products created by their chapter to conference attendees.

Students gain hands-on experience with budgeting, pricing, marketing, sales, customer service, and financial decision-making while raising funds to support their local TSA chapter. From developing a product to managing sales at the conference, the Chapter Marketplace gives members an opportunity to experience the financial side of turning an idea into a real-world venture.

Chapter Marketplace Financial Plan & Participation Instructions

Chapters participating in the Colorado TSA Chapter Marketplace must complete and submit the Proposed Sales Budget as part of their registration. The Chapter Marketplace provides chapters an opportunity to practice financial leadership by planning, producing, pricing, and selling chapter-created products during the State Conference.

Booth Reservations

• Chapters may reserve a booth for 1.5 hours at a time.

• Chapters will have 15 minutes to set up their booth and 15 minutes to break down their booth.

• The booth must be staffed by at least one member of the chapter at all times during the reserved period.

• Chapters are responsible for setting up and removing their products, displays, financial materials, and other booth supplies within the designated times.

Financial Responsibilities

Each chapter is fully responsible for managing its own sales and transactions.

Chapters must:

• Determine the prices for all products.

• Provide their own cash box, change, and other financial resources needed to conduct transactions.

• Provide and manage their own electronic payment methods, if they choose to accept electronic payments.

• Maintain control of all cash, payments, and other financial resources throughout their booth reservation.

• Manage and document their own sales and expenses.

Colorado TSA (COTSA) is not responsible for money or other financial resources that chapters bring to, receive at, or spend as part of the Chapter Marketplace. COTSA does not promise or guarantee that a chapter will make a profit or recover the costs associated with participating.

Completing the Proposed Sales Budget

Complete all applicable blue cells in the spreadsheet.

For each product your chapter plans to sell, provide:

• Product name and brief description

• Quantity your chapter plans to produce

• Material cost per unit

• Any additional cost per unit, such as packaging

• Planned selling price

• Number of units you expect to sell

The spreadsheet will automatically calculate projected revenue, production costs, profit, and profit margin.

Under Other/Shared Expenses, include costs associated with operating your marketplace booth that are not already included in the per-unit cost of your products.

Financial Leadership Plan

Students must complete the three Financial Leadership Plan questions included in the workbook. Chapters should explain:

• How selling prices were determined

• What financial risks were considered and how the chapter plans to manage them

• How the chapter plans to use any proceeds earned through the marketplace

There is no required amount of revenue, profit, or profit margin. The purpose of the financial plan is to demonstrate thoughtful planning, responsible financial decision-making, and an understanding of the financial risks associated with selling a product.

Submission

Review the completed workbook for accuracy and upload the Excel file with your Student Marketplace registration. The financial plan should reflect the work and financial decision-making of TSA members, with support from the chapter advisor as needed.
